About LACA

Mission

Established in 1993, LACA's primary objectives lie in the promotion of the cultural and artistic diversity of Latin America to both the Latin and non-Latin community in Western Australia. We have an active interest in all aspects of fostering, developing and promoting Latin American culture.

We have taken steps in spreading and organising gatherings amongst Latin artists and acknowledging their contribution to the art world. We hope to provide opportunities for Latin artists to display their talents through exhibitions and performances. LACA provides meeting places for artists, groups and individuals. In doing so, we encourage cultural exchange within the community.

We also provide opportunities for members of the community to participate by holding workshops and classes for dance and arts and crafts. Every year, we attempt to expand our boundaries and achievements. The Association fosters a dance group called Fantasia Latina Dance Ensemble. We have a bilingual theatre group and are in process of making a community television program to be aired on CTV in Perth. We currently have a Radio program and a quarterly magazine. One of our biggest achievements so far is the annual celebration of Latin American culture in the streets of Perth, Carnaval Latino, a vibrant and colourful parade with dancers, costumes, drummers, floats and giant puppets, attracting approximately 30,000 spectators in 1998, 1999 and 2000 (began in 1996 as part of The Festival of Perth).
