Carnaval Latino 2003

Supported by City of Perth, Lotteries Commission, Healthway, The Cancer Foundation, and The Office of Multicultural Interest.

LACA celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2003 and the celebrations began with the Carnaval Latino Party and the Carnaval Latino Street Parade in conjunction with the opening and the closing of the Perth International Festival, respectively, with some exciting Latin American events happening throughout the festival such as:

Inflatable Float Making: Free Workshop By Artists Mike Wilford and Ken Allen. Participants wanting to know how to make these fabulous inflatable floats were invited to join this free workshop and participate in the making of this unique art form. The Inflatable Floats were then used as part of the Carnaval Latino 2003 street parade and participants also were invited to participate in the parade.

Carnaval Latino Party at The Johnnie Walker Watershed Featuring Los Pleneros De La 21 (New York), Fantasia Latina Dance Ensemble and DJ Juan Carlos. THE DANCE PARTY OF THE YEAR!!! Featuring: Los Pleneros De La 21: Based in New York City, Los Pleneros de la 21 is a group of Puerto Rican musicians, dancers and artisans who perform Bomba and Plena, two genres of traditional music deeply rooted in African traditions. Los Pleneros de la 21 gets their name from the Santurce, Puerto Rico neighbourhood famous for its Plena musicians. Fantasia Latina Dance Ensemble: Under the direction of Luis Moreno, one of the more authentic Latin dancing groups in Australia. Based in WA, the group performances cover dances from different parts of Latin America countries with an stunning collection of costumes. DJ Juan Carlos Local legendary DJ who introduced Latin DJing to Perth and created a Latin American culture to Northbridge’s Rumba Room - Post Office Nightclub. Dishing out a smorgasbord of hot Latin music including Rumba, Mambo, ChaChaCha, Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Latin Disco, Rap and Hip Hop. Salsational!!!
