Event Highlights


LATIN LEGENDS, AUGUST 2002

A multi-performing arts project, the brain-child of LACA and Luis Moreno (formerly Laca's Artistic Director and Director of the WA Ballet Co.) that achieved the highest possible artistic standards in presenting Latin American traditional dance by blending traditional folkloric dance groups with professional contemporary dancers in a powerful artistic expression. Over 120 community and professional artists on stage and a +1200 audience at one of Perth's most compelling venues, Burswood Theatre.


LATIN PERSPECTIVE (1996-2001)

The annual presentation of a multi-media visual arts exhibition for 5 consecutive years since 1996, on display in various venues including PICA and The Moore’s Building with the participation of numerous artists and SHS students. Included presentation of the LACA-Ilford Anitec photographic awards.


CARNAVAL LATINO

The biggest carnaval street parade in Australia - for 8 consecutive years since 1996. The carnaval formed part of the Festival of Perth celebrations with highlights including the costumed participation of the Hon. Minister of Arts Peter Foss and his wife in 1997, float making and drumming tuition activities.


ORIGENES LATINOS

At the Octagon Theatre - UWA with more than 70 dancers from community groups and professional dancers from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
